My answer:

Why, even if the evidence is overwhelming, do many deny the monumentally greater benefits of fossil fuels as compared to the modest risks our planet is running with climate change?

The evidence is overwhelming that there are small drawbacks, hardly even risks, hardly even modest risks, of climate change, and that there are monumentally greater benefits of fossil fuels over those drawbacks.

Everybody knows this. Nobody is being fooled. But very many people want to shut down fossil fuels anyway, because they know the people with all the physical power in their meat hooks demand and, with their physical power, COMMAND it, to increase their power and to keep it forever. Too many people are too morally chicken to talk up, and at, them, at their faces, with the hardest of language and to call their bluff about climate change and to challenge, in the most certain terms, their power play.
